New ambulance boat contract for GulenSkyss AS
May 14, 2021 signed GulenSkyss contract with Helse Førde for the operation of two new ambulance boats. One ambulance vessel will be stationed at Hardbakke in Solund municipality, while the other vessel will be stationed in Florø .
The operational area of the vessels is from Gulen municipality in the south to Stadtlandet in the north. The contract period we have been awarded is a total of 10 years, with the last two years being options.
The health authority has set requirements that the boats must be of the catamaran type. GulenSkyss will shortly begin construction of the two vessels, which will be identical and ready for operation by May 1st next year. In addition, a used ambulance vessel will be purchased to serve as a reserve boat.
These vessels will be the largest and most modern ambulance boats built in this country. Great emphasis will be placed on good seaworthiness in bad weather so that patients and crew feel safe on board.
GulenSkyss will require state-of-the-art navigation equipment on board for safe operation in all weather conditions and the waters the boats will be navigating. In addition, great emphasis will be placed on the maneuverability of the vessels. Powerful engines will be assisted by bow thrusters for maneuvering in narrow waters.
On board and during disembarkation, there will be a hydraulic walkway forward and aft. The walkway aft will also be able to carry stretcher patients up to the top deck for further transport by helicopter.

GulenSkyss Else operates the ambulance boat in Sunnhordland for Helse Fonna. This connection is the busiest ambulance area in Norway. In addition, we operate scheduled traffic between Hellesøy in Øygarden and the islands there, the route between Eidesvik and Espevær, manning the ferry between Mjånes and Hisarøy and the ferry connection across outer Solund.
